Assignments and Course Requirements: In-Class Assignments (Activities/Discussions/Group Work) (scholarship, leadership) – 5 points – at various times throughout the semester
In-class assignments will be given at various times throughout the class. Some of the assignments will be collaborative and some will be completed individually. The assignments involve the use of the technology that is being explored on a given day and relate to the readings for the class session. In-class assignments cannot be made up. Candidates must be present to complete and receive credit for the assignment.
Reflective Postings via Blog (scholarship, leadership) –13 points- at various times throughout the semester
Candidates will create a blog and post five substantive reflections based on class discussions and topics. Reflective postings should be a minimum of 100 words and contain rationale related to the topic being discussed. Candidates are encouraged to comment on classmates’ reflections.
Reflective Post #1: Introduce yourself. Give the reader some background about how you arrived at this point in your career. What is your experience and opinion regarding technology in education? Feel free to include photos that express your personality (yet are appropriate to the blog), provide links or videos that you feel will help the reader get to know you
Reflective Post #2: Research. Choose a finding from the research presented to you in class. What stood out? Were you surprised by anything you saw? Do you think having information such as this available to you will help you reach your students on a greater level? Should we be cautious about research findings or take them at their word?
Reflective Post #3: Stages. Look back at the PowerPoint from tonight's class. Read through the Stages of Technology Integration slides mentioned in the ACOT study. Which stage are you at now (personally or professionally)? Is there one stage that you found to be particularly easy and/or difficult? Do you agree with the stages as they are listed, or is something missing? Do you know of an instance with a colleague that easily fit in one of the listed stages?

Reflective Post #5: Technology in Education- In this class you've had a chance to experience various types of technology: blogging, wikis, social media for PLNs, digital storytelling, various "cool tools", website development, and a series of other applications such as Prezi, Corkboard and Popplet. Having experienced these tools has your opinion of technology's use in education changed at all? Think back to when you first entered class. Do you feel as if you are more prepared to teach 21st century learners after this course? Did any of these tools stand out and "stick"? Please use your final reflection to discuss any thoughts you have about technology in education.
Personal Learning System[1] (scholarship, leadership) – 10 points – due 10/30 by midnight
A personal learning system (also known as a personal learning network) is a way for you to deal with the tremendous amount of information on the Internet. “It allows you to acquire new ideas and information from a wider circle of minds than you see day to day, to capture ideas and insights as you get them, and to stay current on the things that matter to you.” For this assignment you will create a (or may use an existing) Twitter or Edmodo account. Find a minimum (more are encouraged) of 5 people and/or organizations to follow that are relevant to you. For example, if you are a math teacher you would follow organizations or individuals that may provide you with math resources or tools that can be used to aide math instruction. After several weeks of following and checking resources found through Twitter or Edmodo select ONE resource you found of interest through your PLN and blog about that resource. Be sure to tell us who provided the resource, give a link to the resource in your post, and tell us how this resource will help you. Please be sure to include a link to your twitter feed.
Professional Web Presence (scholarship, leadership, service) – 20 points – final version due 11/27 by midnight and presented in class on 12/4
This site will be used throughout the course as a way of representing yourself as a professional by presenting your beliefs about teaching and materials that you create for the classroom, as well as a way to introduce yourself professionally. It also will serve as a repository for the work that you do in this course. Components of this lesson will be completed at different times throughout the semester but must include:
a homepage with a brief "welcome" statement
a "contact me" page
a link to the Candidate's blog
an Educational Philosophy
20 clickable links (or more)
a Professional Library with a minimum of 5 entries in APA 6th manual style
coursework- Tech Tac Toe, digital story, Tech in Ed presentation
Digital Story (scholarship, leadership) – 9 points – due 10/16 & in class
Each student will develop a digital story on the subject of their choice. To receive full credit for the assignment all digitals stories must:
contain a minimum of 3 out of 5 digital story elements: narration, images, music, text, video (narration is a requirement)
Be 2-4 minutes in length
Be presented in class to peers
Be embedded on the class wiki on the "digital stories" page (you may need to upload to YouTube first)
WebQuest (scholarship, service) – 24 points – final version due 12/4 by the beginning of class
Using a project-based approach and backward design, candidates will work collaboratively to develop an interdisciplinary WebQuest for their respective areas of certification. The WQ must integrate Web 2.0 technology, engage students in higher order thinking, require students to collaborate, provide scaffolding, and follow the WebQuest pedagogical. WebQuests MUST have a page devoted to either the A.D.D.I.E. model or Understanding by Design "Backwards Design" model.
Tech in Ed Presentations (scholarship, leadership, service)- 10 points- due at various times throughout the semester
Candidates will select a technology in education topic they would like to learn more about. Candidates will (1) research the topic, (2) prepare and present a presentation centered around that topic, and (3) post the presentation along with 5 or more additional resources on the class wiki.
Tech, Tac, Toe Tools (scholarship, service) – 9 points – due 11/13 by midnight
The purpose of this assignment is for candidates to demonstrate their skills related to the use and integration of technology and their respective grade levels and areas of certification by creating three technology activities using Web 2.0 tools. These tools will be submitted through Candidates’ websites and blogs. *Candidate Choice must be improved by Instructor prior to start
